How do I choose the right motorcycle chain?
Almost all manufacturers of motorcycle chains provide a type list in which the right chain kit can be found quickly. You can also use our search and you will get a list of all available parts for your motorcycle.
Standard chain, XW-ring chain, X-ring chain & O-ring chain - what are the differences?
XW-Ring, X-Ring or O-Ring? What features should your next motorcycle chain have? Every motorcyclist has their own claims on the chain. There are different qualities and claims of chains.
Standard-Chain
A Standard-DID-Chain has no seal between the side outer and inner links, i.e. water, dust and dirt quickly penetrate the inside of the chain, which drastically shortens the lifetime of the chain. The advantage of the standard DID chain is a slightly higher performance on the rear wheel due to lower friction. The standard chain is much cheaper in terms of price, but requires more time and money for maintenance.
(DID-Kette) O-Ring:
Chains with an O-ring have a considerably higher mileage and require less maintenance. Because the inner part is filled with grease and sealed with an O-ring, the dirt stays outside and the lubrication of the chain is improved.
(DID-Kette) X-Ring:
The inside of the chain is sealed with an X-shaped sealing ring. This seal protects better (than chains with an O-ring) from contamination and prevents the grease filling from escaping.
XW-Ring (only RK):
with six sealing points, the XW-Ring ensures that a loss of lubricant is avoided. This seal also protects against dust and other soiling. With regular maintenance, an XW-ring chain has a much longer lifetime than a chain with an O-ring.
O-Ring = Standard
X-Ring = further development of the O-Ring
XW-Ring = further development of the X-Ring (only available at chains of RK)
Chain pitch
Every motorcycle has its own pitch. When buying a new chain set, it is important that the pitch of all individual components is the same and that it corresponds to the pitch of the original chain set. Chains, pinions and sprockets are standardized. This ensures that a chain with the pitch 525 fits on a pinion or sprocket with the pitch 525. It does not normally matter whether the parts are from different manufacturers. For advertising purposes, however, it is recommended that the best combination is within the same manufacturer.
