SD06

Honda CRF 1000 Africa Twin The Honda CRF 1000 L Africa Twin is an all-terrain motorcycle from the Japanese manufacturer Honda. The project name of the pre-series model was True Adventure. On May 12, 2015, Honda announced that the sales designation for the series machine Africa Twin would be, and that its market launch is planned for late 2015. The vehicle name is CRF 1000 L, the prefix CR stands for Cross (motocross), the F for Four-stroke (four-stroke engine), the number indicates the displacement class in cubic centimeters and the L stands for liquid-cooled (liquid cooling). The factory code SD 04 follows the Honda XL 1000 V Varadero (SD 01–03) produced until 2012. From model year 2018, the CRF 1000 has the factory code SD 06 in all versions. In June 2014, Honda filed a patent for an outside-mounted airbox with the United States Patent and Trademark Office that enables a leaner, lower-lying fuel tank. This arrangement improves off-road handling because it lowers the center of gravity and allows the driver to move further forward without an overhanging fuel tank blocking the way. The prototype of the True Adventure was presented at the international motorcycle fair EICMA on November 6, 2014 in Milan. At the fair, the prototype was painted in camouflage and covered with mud. The liquid-cooled two-cylinder engine generates a nominal output of 70 kW (95 hp) and a maximum torque of 98 Nm at a speed of 7500 rpm from a displacement of 998 cm³. The two cylinders of the parallel twin have a bore of 92 mm in diameter, the pistons have a stroke of 75.1 mm. An overhead camshaft actuates two intake valves via bucket tappets and two exhaust valves per cylinder via rocker arm. The crankshaft is designed with an offset of 270 degrees. Two balancer shafts are designed to reduce engine vibration. One also drives the oil and water pump, the second is mounted in the clutch housing. Two brake discs with an anti-lock braking system on the front wheel decelerate. An (optional) dual clutch transmission, as is already available for various Honda models, such as the Honda VFR 1200 X Crosstourer, makes a manually operated clutch unnecessary. The tires mounted on wire-spoke wheels have a diameter of 21 inches at the front and 18 inches at the rear. An O-ring chain works in the secondary drive. The motorcycle accelerates from 0 to 100 km / h in 3.8 seconds and reaches a top speed of 201 km / h. With an average braking deceleration of 9.2 m / s², the braking system needs 41.9 meters from 100 km / h to standstill. The 18.8 liter fuel tank enables a maximum range of 383 km. The Honda CRF series has been successfully represented in the enduro and motocross range for years. The CRF1000L is Honda's response to the market trend towards more than 250 kg and road-oriented travel enduros like the BMW R 1200 GS K50, KTM 1190 Adventure, Ducati Multistrada 1200 and Triumph Tiger Explorer. With a lighter and more off-road design, the motorcycle is positioned between the adventure bikes with 800 and 1200 cm³ displacement and competes with the KTM 1050 Adventure and the Suzuki V-Strom 1000 ABS, which also have a displacement of around one liter. Conceptually, the Africa Twin brings together the all-terrain chassis and lightweight frame of the Honda CRF450R motocross bike, the displacement-enhanced Unicam in-line engine of the Honda NC 700 X crossover bike, and the tight trim of a Triumph Tiger 800.
